This Is Not Vivian. The Photographer as a Form of Life
2019
In Semiotics, the notion of form of life seems to be associated to crossing a boundary, be it the one between dimensions of language (usage/rule), between cognitive aspects of a discourse (ethical/aesthetic) or generic dimensions of living (particular/general) in such a way that its own perception (and therefore its heuristic relevance) seems subordinate to the possibility of comparing those that initially appear to us as heterogeneous textualities. In order to detect the form of life it is necessary to go beyond the text, whether this leads to a practice or another text, and therefore a discourse. But is there a possibility that a text does not limit itself to speaking about a form of life…
2020
A strange obsession for truth seems to define the present time: injunction to truth-telling, call to being authentic, fear of the fake are some of the features characterizing practices and rethorics of our living together. The realm of politics appears to be a privileged ground to this end, being able to grasp the symptoms diffused in the everyday life and configure them into steady models of behaviour through the effectiveness of its (self)representations. This paper aims to address the rhetoric pervasiveness of the concept of truth by inquiring the semantic field deployed by neologism “truthiness” and its Italian translation “veracità”, tentatively defined as a “natural” truth that presen…
« Littératures et formes de vie »
2011

Technology in culture : a theoretical discourse on convergence in human-technology interaction
2014
Technology touches so many facets of contemporary life that one is not necessarily conscious any more of how and why it affects daily experience. Awareness of technology’s role often surfaces only when something goes wrong with a product. At that moment, people become aware of a misalignment between their ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, and the form/function of a product, presumably designed to make life easier. Equally ubiquitous and beyond daily awareness are cognitive, affective, and behavioural processes patterned by culture. It has been noted that cultural factors influence the perception and usage of technology. Understanding these processes is important to researchers, design…
An Ecological Dynamics Approach to Understanding Human-Environment Interactions in the Adventure Sport Context – Implications for Research and …
2022
The last few decades have witnessed a surge of interest in adventure sports, and an emerging research focus on these activities. However, recent conceptual analyses and scientific reviews have highlighted a major, fundamental question that remains unresolved: what constitutes an adventure sport (and are they ‘sports’ at all)? Despite several proposals for definitions, the field still seems to lack a shared conceptualization. This deficit may be a serious limitation for research and practice, restricting the development of a more nuanced theoretical explanation of participation and prac-tical implications within and across adventure sports. In this article we address anot…
The ethos of conviviality. From the table to the tablet
2012
An Ecological Conceptualization of Extreme Sports
2018
Currently, there are various definitions for extreme sports and researchers in the field have been unable to advance a consensus on what exactly constitutes an ‘extreme’ sport. Traditional theory-led explanations, such as edgeworks, sensation seeking and psychoanalysis, have led to inadequate conceptions. These frameworks have failed to capture the depth and nuances of experiences of individuals who refute the notions of risk-taking, adrenaline- and thrill-seeking or death-defiance. Instead, participants are reported to describe experiences as positive, deeply meaningful and life-enhancing. The constant evolution of emerging participation styles and philosophies, expressed within and across…
